POLYBUTYLENE TEREPHTHALATE (PBT)

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) was developed by chemists at the German chemical company BASF in the 1970s. BASF was instrumental in the research and commercialization of PBT, building on the foundation of earlier developments in polyester chemistry.

PBT is a thermoplastic engineering polymer known for its excellent electrical properties, mechanical strength, and resistance to chemicals and heat. These attributes make it particularly valuable in the automotive, electronics, and consumer appliance industries. BASF’s pioneering work in developing and producing PBT has made it a widely used material in various high-performance applications.

Examples of our work with PBT pictured above are valve components, two of which also contain stainless steel inserts.
